More than Snowsuits: How the Snowsuit Fund Helps Ottawa Families
This Giving Tuesday, the CLV Group and IIP Team headed to Donald Street to volunteer with the Snowsuit Fund and contribute to the nearly 17,000 snowsuits the foundation delivers to low-income families in Ottawa annually. This $25,000 donation to the Snowsuit Fund would not have been possible without our generous sponsors from the 2025 Mike McCann Charity Golf Tournament. Thank you!
History of the Snowsuit Fund
The Snowsuit Fund strives to make warm clothing accessible for all families in Ottawa. As basic needs like utilities and food serve as family priorities, many children are left to face the cold unprotected. The Snowsuit Fund is powered by volunteers and the community and sets out to strengthen Ottawa every winter. This foundation runs solely on the generosity of individuals and groups and creates its impact without formal government funding. There are many ways to contribute to the Snowsuit Fund, from donating used snowsuits to making an online donation.
During the 2024-2025 winter season, the Snowsuit Fund supported 8,154 families. Of those families, 19,515 children were kept warm in high-quality snowsuits and matching hats. Founded in 1982, the Snowsuit Fund has been a large part of the Ottawa community for almost 44 years.
What Donations Mean to the Snowsuit Fund
This donation to the Snowsuit Fund means more than just providing an opportunity for children in Ottawa to have access to snowsuits; it supports children’s health and supplies a child with a sense of belonging. By being warm throughout the winter, a child can better connect with their peers by playing outdoors. The Snowsuit Fund facilitates the building of snowmen, the creation of snow angles, and the competition of snowball fights – experiences that every child deserves to enjoy. A snowsuit can also offer a sense of belonging to a child. By matching appearances with friends in winter apparel, a child develops feelings of inclusion, confidence, and self-esteem.
